This course teaches the basic sailing practices and techniques. We will hoist, change, stow and reef the sails; gibe and come about; reach and run with the wind. The nights spent on board give a first hand insight into the joys of life on a sailing boat.
Boarding is at 1800hs at the Yacht Club of Santa Catarina. At this time, we will have a theoretic class, an introduction to the boat and its equipment and the discussion of the route to be navigated. The evening ends with dinner on board.
The start of the practical part of the course is on the first tide the following morning. Normally we sail north towards Armação da Piedade Bay where we drop anchor. Next morning we sail towards the open seas, heading to Arvoredo Island then to return to the Yacht Club for the evening.
Lunch is a sandwich between manoeuvres.
Dinner and Breakfast are onboard and are ideal moments to raise doubts and discuss the topics of the course. After dinner is relaxation time, one might read a book, swim, row to the beach or simply look at the night sky.
